 County Seniors Championship Dominated by Home Club

The Seniors' championship, played at Henllys Golf club, attracted an entry of sixty two competitors. The overall winner (best nett score of the day) was Maldwyn Jones of the home club with a round of 83 - 21 - 62. Other category winners were Trevor W Jones (Baron Hill G C) who recorded 79 - 9 - 70 and Tony Spence (Henllys G C) with a return of 84 - 19 - 65.

Union Vice President Dafydd G Davies (Bull Bay G C) returned the best gross score of the day with 78.

Henllys G C won the team event with a best five out of six nett score total of 337. Members of the winning team were Charles Dodd, David Morrison, Tony Spence, D Pittaway, Idris Brookes and M Kershaw.

 Juniros Beaten at Old Padeswood

The county junior team, captained by Mark Parry of the Holyhead G C, suffered a heavy defeat at Old Padeswood G C when Flintshire beat them by 10 matches to 2.

Anglesey lost the four morning foursome matches and lost the opening six of the eight afternoon singles. Fine performances by Ben Flint (Baron Hill G C) who beat Thomas Houghton (Hawarden GC) 2 and 1 and Bull Bay G C's Edward Beardsley who beat Alex Pugh (Mold G C) 2 and 1 registered Anglesey's only points of the day. 
 

 
 Scott Completes County Double

Click for a bigger pictureScott Parry, the 36 hole scratch champion, completed a double when he won the county match play crown at Bull Bay G C. In the 18 hole final The Holyhead G C golfer beat Kieran Robinson of the Anglesey G C 3 and 2.

The Rhosneigr golfer, the new Welsh under 16's champion, after halves at the opening three holes won the fourth and fifth hole and after losing the sixth regained a two hole lead after the seventh. The experienced Parry battled back to win the eighth and ninth holes and went one up after a par three on the short tenth hole - he extended his lead to two after the thirteenth where he hit a superb second shot to within a couple of feet of the hole. Both players recorded par fours on the fourteenth but a birdie four on the fifteenth from the Holyhead golfer put him dormie three up and par threes at the sixteenth gave Scott Parry the title after a match played in an excellent spirit.
 

 
 County Team Beaten at North Wales G C Llandudno

In the final match of the season the county team was beaten by 9 matches to 3 by Caernarfonshire at the North Wales G C Llandudno. The host county won the morning foursomes by 3 matches to 1 and recorded success by 6 matches to 2 in the afternoon singles when the island team's wins were registered by Emyr Jones who beat Ross Davies 4 and 2 and Rob Jones who won by 4 and 3 against Marco Spaccone.
 

 
 Junior Championship

Welsh under 18 international and one handicapper Mark Parry of the Holyhead G C won the 36 hole scratch Anglesey junior championship at Bull Bay G C for the third time having captured the championship before in 2007 and 2008 ( the first time that a player has won the title three times).

 Kieran Captures National Championship

Kieran Robinson of the Anglesey G C Rhosneigr won the Welsh Boys under 15 Championship at Abergele G C with rounds of 77 and 71 for a thirty six hole total of 148 - this score was recorded by Otto Mand of the Dewstow G C too but the Anglesey player won the title on a better second 18 hole score. Baron Hill G C's Kiearn Warriner won the bronze medal in the under 13 section in a card play off with fellow Baron Hill member Darren Owen after both players had returned 81. 
 

 
 International Recognition

Anglesey G C, Rhosneigr's Kieran Robinson, following his success in the Welsh under 15's championship, has been included in the Welsh under 16 team to play their English counterparts at the Monmouthshire G C on Saturday, September 5th.
 
 
 Holyhead GC Regain Rawlinson Sheild

The final round of the 2010 inter club Seniors team competition for the Rawlinson Shield was played at Bull Bay G C. Holyhead G C regained the shield with a five round total of 2250.

Other scores were:- Baron Hill G C 2255, Bull Bay GC 2271, Anglesey G C 2285, Storws Wen G C 2331.

Fifth round team winners were Bull Bay G C with a best six out of seven team score of 438. Other scores were Holyhead G C 448, Baron Hill GC 462, Storws Wen GC 468 and Anglesey G C 479. The best individual nett score was returned by Derek Gilbert (Bull Bay G C) who recorded 79 - 11 - 68.
 

 
 Defeat for Juniors at Abergele
 

12/08/10

The county junior team lost by 6.5 to 5.5 against Denbighshire at Abergele G C. The morning foursome matches were halved two points apiece but the home team won the afternoon singles 4.5 to 3.5 and record an overall winning score of 6.5 to 5.5.

Anglesey's team consisted of Mark Parry (captain), Scott Fenwick, Myles Jones (Holyhead G C), Kieran Robinson (Anglesey G C), Adam Warriner (Baron Hill G C), Iwan Roberts, Eddie Beardsley and Aaron Williams (Bull Bay G C).
 

 
 International Recognition for Kieran

Anglesey G C Rhosneigr's Kieran Robinson has been included in the Welsh under 15 team to play against Surrey at Hinckley Common G C this coming Sunday, August 15th - congratulations from all those associated with the A G U.
